Good Sam resident’s flowers result in open class ribbons

NEBRASKA CITY, NE - JoAnne Bates, 86, and resident at Good Samaritan Society – Syracuse Assisted Living won two first place ribbons at the Otoe County Fair for flowers she entered in the open class contest.

The assisted living has two of its own very large, raised garden beds with flowers and vegetables, along with large flowerpots at the entrance. JoAnne has made it her mission and now purpose in life to ensure the garden is kept up and always looking beautiful.

JoAnne’s favorite flowers are daisies, and she says she loves flowers because “they’re so pretty.” She says her mother loved roses and they always had flowers to take care of growing up. Today, gardening brings back memories of her mother and providers her so much happiness.

JoAnne proves that no matter your age, you can live a happy and fulfilling life.
