(Duluth, Minn.) – Residents who actively take part in our wellness programs truly amaze me. With a variety of groups offered, I see a common theme developing among those residents. They are taking ownership of their health in order to remain as independent as possible.
More than half of Aftenro residents take part in one or more of our wellness programs. Most are in their 80s and 90s. Whether they receive a massage for sore or painful muscles, ride the NuStep bike for leg strengthening, exercise in core strength, or attend one of the other group exercises, each resident expresses gratitude for the opportunity to work on improving or at least retaining the function they have.
Our wellness center offers a sense of community — residents remind and encourage each other to exercise. Often, residents will bring along a new resident. As they are welcomed and introduced to other residents, friendships start to develop within our Aftenro family, of which I am proud to be a part.
I wish to extend many thanks to our residents, volunteers, staff members, board members and the greater community for making our wellness center what it is today. Let us all give thanks and gratitude for the gifts we have, especially those gifts of gratitude expressed by our residents.
