(Kissimmee, Fla.) – Some think of quilters as peacefully working at their sewing. But a recent event at Heritage Creekside shattered that perception.

In the first quilting duel hosted by Good Samaritan Society – Kissimmee Village, Nan Montford beat her friend Mary Reinmann by finishing her project in 28 minutes. Each woman sewed together 1,600 linear inches (more than 44 yards in length) of 2 1/2-inch fabric, creating lap-size quilt tops that they later sold.

Among the 100 topiaries on display at the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival are these dwarf friends of Snow White, skipping through a bed of fuschia impatiens.

Village Staff Member of the Year:
Donna Meyer, licensed practical nurse at Heritage Creekside assisted living

Healthcare Center Staff Member of the Year:
Dawn Wurst, registered nurse in memory care

CNA of the Year:
Barbara Knicley, certified nursing assistant
