(Kissimmee, Fla.) – June Bainer is often one of the first residents people meet when they move to Good Samaritan Society – Kissimmee Village or look for information about activities.

As a longtime volunteer, June has served on the Welcome Wagon team, as a neighborhood ambassador and at the hostess desk. She also has been resident council secretary, a focus group facilitator and a library volunteer.

June was honored as 2012 Volunteer of the Year at a recent appreciation brunch in the community center.

I love a comment I read recently from one of our residents at Good Samaritan Society – Kissimmee Village. Of her husband, Ralph, and herself, Mary Reinmann says, “We are in our mid-70s and we are still very active.”

She commented on Village golf, swimming and other activities. “That is what we were looking for,” Mary says. The Reinmanns moved from Ohio more than three years ago. Click here to read her story.

For me, Mary’s words are a sign of the times. We all have far different expectations for our retirement years than did the generation before us. We expect better services, better amenities and better opportunities to continue our growth as people.
