Home Care and Hospice (Brainerd/Nisswa, Minn.)

In this journey, one need not walk alone.

Hospice care provides comfort and care to terminally ill patients and their families during the final stages of life. Hospice is a comprehensive program of comfort or palliative care, based on the belief that every day has meaning and that providing freedom of pain, fear and uncertainty enhances the quality of life for those facing the end of life.

Care at the end of life may involve a combination of home care, hospitalizations, hospice and palliative care. Learning about these options empowers one to make informed, meaningful and personal choices that are right for you and/or loved ones.

The Good Samaritan Society strives to go beyond relieving pain, knowing that it’s not about the number of days in a life but rather, adding life to those days.

We understand that it is difficult to say goodbye or to let go of someone dear. At this time it is important to be surrounded by caring professionals who will be there to guide and serve the client and their family. Whether it be supporting, guiding, managing the disease process or simply holding one’s hand in prayer.

Hospice is a philosophy of care that recognizes death as the final stage of life. It seeks to enable a person to continue alert, pain-free living so their last days are dignified, comfortable, filled with quality and surrounded by loved ones.

Hospice care may be an appropriate choice when a client can no longer benefit from curative treatments and has a limited life expectancy, as diagnosed by a physician. Hospice service begins when the client, physician and family decides that it is best. If the client or family member’s situation changes, the client’s condition improves or the disease goes into remission the client can be discharged from hospice services, yet resume services at a later date if needed.
