The Pohai Nani lifestyle

Aloha!

Thank you for visiting Pohai Nani online. We've tried to capture some of the excitement and beauty of our campus on these pages. I hope you get a feel for the beauty of the islands when you visit this site.

The words "Pohai Nani" when translated into English from Hawaiian mean "Surrounded by Beauty." Visitors and residents alike can certainly attest that our name fits! This campus, which opened in 1964, occupies sixteen acres that are filled with lush, tropical plants and trees. Decades old monkey pod trees line our driveway and white ginger, banana, and hibiscus beckon as you stroll our walking paths. The emerald peaks of the Koolau Mountains provide a majestic backdrop while sparkling Kaneohe Bay glistens in the distance.

I hope you take a tour of Pohai Nani soon. I look forward to welcoming you personally.

Patricia Camero
Executive Director

Beautiful Kaneohe

Pohai Nani is located in Kaneohe, on the Windward side of the island of Oahu. Kaneohe is a highly sought-after residential area. The warm ocean waters, the natural backdrop of the lush Koolau Mountains, and the profusion of exotic flowers and proximity to a world-class white sand beach helps to create one of the world's most desirable and beautiful settings.

A twenty-minute drive from Honolulu and Waikiki, Kaneohe is served by a number of varying social service and community organizations. There are numerous parks, public facilities, schools, and almost 1,000 businesses.

Climate and comfort

Kaneohe has a mild and temperate climate, relatively free of uncomfortable extremes. The tradewinds provide a system of natural ventilation and cool, fresh air – enough that most residents find additional air conditioning units for their apartments unnecessary.

Year-round rainfall of approximately 65 inches maintains a tropical green landscape. The average temperature is approximately 75 degrees.

Besides being known as the aloha state for the generous and loving spirit prevalent in the islands, Hawaii also is known as the health state because of many favorable conditions for fitness and health. Hawaii also is a safe state, with one of the lowest crime rates in the United States.

Ministry

Good Samaritan Society – Pohai Nani’s chaplains help the Pohai Nani community grow through personal relationships, worship, education and service. Our chaplains are ministers with additional chaplaincy training, and they specialize in counseling and meeting the spiritual needs of residents and staff. Their services are available to the entire Pohai Nani community in cooperation with Pacific Health Ministry.

Wellness

Pohai Nani's wellness program is another great benefit that residents enjoy. We offer different specialized classes that take advantage of our therapeutic heated swimming pool and spacious activity rooms. There are several classes offered five days a week with qualified instruction, including Yoga, Tai Chi and Strength & Balance classes. We offer an exercise equipment center for our residents with the guidance of the wellness program staff. Read more to see our wellness class schedule.
