Elaine’s best-of-show award

(Sister Bay, WI) - Elaine Kalms has lived at Scandia Village for more than eight years. She keeps herself busy. She’s an avid reader, completing several books a week. She also knits washcloths for her church rummage sale, makes aprons for a Humane Society fundraiser, acts as a resident advocate at Resident Council meetings, assists at cooking class and does “too many other things to mention,” she says.

This past year, she knit more than 250 dolls and sent them to third-world countries. In September, Activity Director Gloria Klotter entered Elaine’s dolls in the Wisconsin State Cultural Arts Show. Not only did Elaine win first place in the knitting category, she won “Best of Show” out of more than 350 entries. She was honored at Scandia Village in September.

Care center resident Juanita Stephan holds an angel waiting to be placed on the Giving Tree.

(Sister Bay, WI) - The Good Samaritan Society – Scandia Village is raising money through our annual Giving Tree of Angels program. The fundraiser takes place in November and December, and allows the campus to make purchases that are not in our operating budget.

For a donation of $15 or more, an angel will be placed on the Giving Tree of your choice. Giving Trees are located in the care center, Birchwood, Woodview and the Meadows. Angels may be purchased in honor or in memory of a loved one.

This year, your gift to this program can support Scandia Village’s charitable allowance, educational scholarship fund, improved communication system and the endowment fund, or you may designate your gift to a special project of your choice.

One-hundred percent of donated funds stay at our local campus, and items are purchased locally when possible. All gifts are tax-deductible within IRS regulations. If matching funds are available through your employer or fraternal organization, we would be happy to help you take advantage of this opportunity.

If you would like to participate, please call me at (920) 854-2317. Checks can be made payable to Good Samaritan Society – Scandia Village.

Thanks for sharing in the holiday spirit at Scandia Village, and for giving residents and staff members the opportunity to remember loved ones during the Christmas season.
