(Sister Bay, WI) - On Nov. 2, 1981, Scandia Village’s first three residents came to live on the campus. Scandia Village, also known then as SCAND – Senior Citizens Agency of Northern Door, was a dream made possible because of the community. Beginning in October 1974, dedicated community members worked diligently to research the need for senior care, raise funds, secure financing, obtain plans/permits, and finally, build a 60-bed skilled nursing center.
Scandia Village owes a debt of gratitude to those faithful founders who had the vision to provide a place where seniors of Northern Door County could receive care and services. The founders saw their vision become a reality, and expanded their dream to include the Villas, Apartments and Assisted Living. SCAND Inc. created a partnership with the Good Samaritan Society early on, hiring the organization as a manager. In 1993, SCAND Inc. voted to ask the Good Samaritan Society, an organization dedicated to serving those in need, to fully administer the campus.
On this, our 30th year of Scandia Village’s service to the Northern Door Community, we pay tribute to all who given freely of themselves for our campus. You have been, and continue to be, a shining example of partners in compassion.
Please see the list below for a complete list of committee members who helped make the Good Samaritan Society – Scandia Village dream possible. With the community’s ever-strong help, we will continue to meet the needs of seniors and others in Door County.
