Amy Pokela serves as a member of the Foundation’s leadership team as the Foundation Administrator. She leads a team of professionals focused on engaging internal and external partners, volunteers and donors. She is also directly involved in ensuring the strategy of the Foundation and the strategy of the Society stay in alignment.
Amy brings a diverse background to her role. A master’s degree in public administration from the University of South Dakota serves as the foundation to her approach to work. She has spent her entire career in the non-profit sector learning from each role along the way: program director for a federal grant and small shop executive director responsible for everything from budgets to grant writing to program management to fundraising.
In late 2011, Amy joined the Good Samaritan Foundation team. During this time, Amy earned the Certified Fund Raising Executive credential indicating her commitment to ethical fundraising.
Amy is involved with the South Dakota Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals as a member of the programs committee. Since 2011, she has also taught Fundraising for Public/ Nonprofit Organizations for the University of South Dakota, her alma mater. Through this opportunity, she has introduced the principles of donor-centered fundraising to over 100 students from around the country.
