Milk donation strengthens body and spirit

Milk donation strengthens body and spirit

Crossville, TN – The Good Samaritan – Fairfield Glade began receiving weekly shipments of milk from Borden Dairy in June thanks to a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture. The gallons of two-percent milk provide important nutrition to residents, employees and Crossville area citizens during a time when the COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting normal food distribution systems.

“This is an exciting opportunity to work with a great organization — Borden’s Dairy. They have a spirit of social accountability and community service, and they make a huge impact with an essential food source that people really need,” said Frank Horvath, director of donor engagement and acting director of communications and media relations.

The distribution will continue through the summer months.

The Society will use the milk for residents and patients. As part of the grant, employees can also receive additional gallons on a first-come, first-serve basis. The local food pantry, Cumberland Good Samaritans, will receive the remaining inventory.

“It’s good to be in a place like this,” said Bobby and Nancy Craft, residents of Fairfield Glade. They were on hand when the first donation arrived and helped to unpack and distribute the milk. “We moved here four years ago, and we enjoy the sharing that goes on here with all the residents and staff.”

“The donation and our work with the food pantry shows that we care about the people that are isolated right now,” says Peyton Casey Gannon, dietary team member. “At the Good Samaritan we give, we go the extra mile. Residents have given a lot in their lives, and this is a way to give back.”
