Good Samaritan Society – Estes Park Village is known for its top-notch food, and head chef Max Humbrecht plays a big part in that.
With his expertise in culinary arts and his leadership, creativity and hard work, he prepares high quality food that make Estes Park Village’s holiday celebrations and monthly dinner shows the place to be, not only for our residents but also guests from the Estes Park community.
“People make a connection through food that’s often not made in any other way. Food can spark a memory that has long been forgotten,” says Max. “Through food, a legacy is left. Friends and families unite through food.”
One visit with Max and you can tell the passion he has for culinary arts.
“I can encourage people to try something they have never tried before or haven’t tried since they were very young,” Max says. “There is great satisfaction when they discover something that they like so much and add it to their food repertoire.”
Max was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He attended college there, earning an associate degree in culinary arts, which included an additional year in baking and pastry school. After graduation, he spent part of a summer fine-tuning his trade in France and Spain. Returning to the states, Max moved to Chicago where he worked as a cook, manager and eventually head chef.
He then moved to Colorado, where he worked as a traveling chef for Morrison Food before becoming head chef at Estes Park Village.
Max has great camaraderie with residents. He loves to do impressions — whether singing, comedy or otherwise. And people enjoy visiting with him since he is well read and culturally savvy in literature, art, philosophy and science.
In the future, Max hopes to mentor others. His dream is to start a school or program that allows others who might not have the funds or the ability to go to culinary school.
