With 425 acres and a rich Christian heritage of service to Central Florida, there’s a number of areas both natural and man-made that lend themselves to prayer and meditation in Kissimmee Village.
The memory garden includes a quaint prayer chapel where there are recorded hymns and prayers provided for your comfort. The stained glass windows look out over the ossuary and toward the fountain of Lake Heart, which provides a peaceful sound. This special area also includes a bell tower that broadcasts chimes and cloaks the community in a hymn on the hour, and a statue of Christ. Both are generous gifts from resident donors.
Good Samaritan Society – Kissimmee Village provides a full-time Village chaplain to tend to the spiritual needs of residents and staff members.
Kissimmee Village residents come from a number of religious backgrounds, evidenced by the variety of local churches offering Bible studies and fellowship groups in the Village each week. Residents also are invited to attend the active congregation at Good Samaritan Community Church, watch the services live on TV 733 or to attend any of the various local churches.
48 years of shining service at Kissimmee Village
2019 marks 48 years since the start of the Sunshine Auxiliary. We celebrate this volunteer work that benefits residents of the Good Samaritan Society – Kissimmee Village healthcare center.
On March 10, 1971, a group of three women met in the chapel to start an auxiliary for the soon-to-open long-term care center. A week later on March 17, 1971, about 20 women met to form the volunteer organization, The Aldersgate Sunshine Auxiliary. They received support from nearby Kissimmee businesses and organizations.
In addition to stocking the gift shop with their hand-crafted items, the Aldersgate Sunshine Auxiliary helped residents with their meals, served water, folded linens, hosted monthly birthday parties and provided fruit at Thanksgiving. They raised money to purchase much-needed equipment through bazaars, bake sales and gift shop sales.
Today, the Sunshine Auxiliary continues the work of its founders. Crafters meet every Friday morning in the Sunshine Room to make table favors that they distribute to resident rooms in the healthcare center. They also make items for the sidewalk sales during Spring Festival. For many years, members hosted a Christmas party and to this day the group distributes holiday gift bags to residents.
The gift shop is operated by volunteers who keep it open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. General meetings are the first Tuesday of the month in the Florida Room.
Kissimmee Village residents find love and support among their neighbors and friends in a variety of support groups. Key groups include the All Cancer Support Group, Alzheimer’s Support Group, Challengers: Mobility Support, New Beginnings for widows and widowers, the Parkinson’s Support Group and the Heart Support Group. Stop by the hostess desk to pick up the latest listing.
