My second child was born on Dec. 16, so my family and I weren’t able to travel to our relatives’ homes for the holidays. This was going to be my first holiday spent without my family, and although I had my husband and children there with me, I missed my parents and siblings. I was an emotional, post-partum wreck, and I needed someone to comfort me and cheer me up. So that is why I dialed my co-worker Annie’s number.
The call that changed it all
Annie was bright, cheerful and vivacious, but she lived far from family and preferred to spend her free time in solitude. We had grown to be good friends at work, and I knew I could count on her to pick me up. I knew that she would be spending Christmas alone, so I gave her a call.
