95-year-old retired minister, WWII vet Rodney Gist finds a place with Sioux Falls music group


Along with the ukuleles and kazoos the band is named for, there's now a bass undertone during performances and occasionally — a harmonica solo by 95-year-old Rodney Gist.

Alecia O'Neill, senior living administrator for Good Samaritan Society, said that Gist and his wife are perfect examples of how even at an advanced age, people can be productive members of their community.

"A lot of our folks still are very involved in the community, sharing their passions with others. A lot go out and volunteer still, like Rodney," O'Neill said. "He's able to still use his musical talents to serve others."
