Therapy chicken visits assisted-living residents in Prescott

PRESCOTT VALLEY, A.Z. - “I just think it's special because it just makes such a difference in their life,” said Kelly Paradis, sales specialist for Good Samaritan Society – Willow Wind Assisted Living.

“I’m a city girl, so I like to see the chicken because I've seen them in a zoo, but that's about it,” resident Angela Contreras said. “She has a blanket and she puts it on everybody's laps and you take turns petting it. It's really sweet. It fell asleep on my lap.”

“Everybody brings their dogs, so I thought, well, I got a chicken that will sit calmly in their lap and I think that she can bring lots of joy to these folks,” said Becky Medina, activities coordinator and owner of Gracie the chicken. /p>

“It's the sweetest thing, you can hold it, it holds like a puppy and has beautiful coloring,” said Barbara Hebert, a resident of the facility. “I’m a country girl. I grew up with chickens, and this one is so pretty. What got me is she put a diaper on it.”
