Generosity, compassion are a way of life for Sanford vaccine clinic volunteer

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – 87-year-old former pastor and Prairie Creek Lodge resident Don Gaarder greeted Sanford and GSS employees at the on-site flu and covid-19 vaccination clinic.

‘I like helping out volunteering to help the folks with their flu shots and covid shots if they haven’t had one,’ said Gaarder.

‘Don is such a gift to Prairie Creek and to the Good Samaritan Society as a whole. He represents so much of who we are with the spirit of compassion and generosity and connection so we’re delighted that he’s here today,’ said Senior Pastor Christy Hallenbeck Ask.

‘People come back. I’ve seen them before. They’re happy to see me, just a familiar face for them even though we’re wearing masks,” said Gaarder.
