Family honors brother’s memory at Society

During his 80 years, Gerald “Gary” Ethington reveled in his time outdoors. As a resident of Good Samaritan Society – Hastings Village’s Perkins Pavilion, in Hastings, Neb., he enjoyed soaking up the sunshine and fresh air.

Gerald passed away in October 2019, but his memory will live on through a generous donation from his siblings Pat Jones, Charlotte Jewell and Riley Ethington. Their support will help create a more relaxing and peaceful outdoor experience for the residents at Perkins Pavilion.

“We wanted something that would give comfort to others, just as the folks at Perkins Pavilion have shown him,” Pat told us. “We thought the gift of the outdoor furniture would be most appreciated by the residents there. We could almost imagine our brother rocking in those chairs!”

Gerald was known to his fellow residents for his wealth of knowledge and photographic memory. At Perkins Pavilion, he found a sense of belonging.

“Gerald felt like he really belonged there and appreciated the positive interaction with the staff,” Pat said. “They made him feel valued and respected.”
