Art class brings out residents’ creative side

Helena Kingsman has been teaching art and painting classes at Good Samaritan Society – Loveland Village for the past two years and appreciates the different perspective residents have given her.

“Creativity doesn’t fade. It transforms with age,” says Helena, a local Loveland artist.

Residents look forward to the monthly classes where they learn new techniques.

“You just show up and they tell you what to do. It’s a time to relax and be creative,” says Phyllis Wehrle, a Loveland Village resident who always wanted to take painting classes.

Resident Jim Williams feels fortunate to have Helena teaching the classes.

“Helena does a fantastic job,” he says.

Helena likes knowing she’s making a difference by helping residents express their creativity. She encourages others to share their passion with older adults.

“It’s inspired me a lot being here. I’ve learned so much from them and I know I’ve been able to teach them so much,” says Helena.
