Matching grant program funds 30+ vital projects at Good Samaritan

Benedictine Sisters’ sitting at Good Samaritan - St. Martin Village.

At Good Samaritan Society – Prairie Creek in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, residents enjoy a peaceful outdoor gathering space under a newly constructed pergola. The space offers shade, comfort and a place to connect.

And in Minnesota, residents at Good Samaritan Society – Battle Lake are spending more time outdoors in a newly renovated courtyard. The serene environment provides a place of reflection, socialization and healing.

Both spaces, along with 28 other projects across Good Samaritan, were made possible through a new matching grant program.

“This project means so much to our residents,” says Melissa Hoffman, administrator in Battle Lake. “Time outdoors brings peace, joy and healing – and this courtyard has truly become a sanctuary.”

Double the impact

The matching grant program was launched by the Good Samaritan Foundation in 2025 to inspire local engagement and amplify donor impact.

Each participating campus was challenged to raise $10,000. Once they did, the Foundation awarded a $10,000 matching grant – resulting in $20,000 per campus to fund meaningful projects that directly benefit residents.

From building enhancements and technology upgrades to new furniture, equipment and more, these matching grants have helped bring meaningful improvements across Good Samaritan campuses.

Celebrating success

The first 30 campuses to reach their goal include:

  • Colorado: Loveland, Water Valley
  • Iowa: Davenport, Estherville, Forest City, Le Mars, Manson, Postville, St. Ansgar, Waukon
  • Kansas: Hays, Olathe
  • Nebraska: Albion, Auburn, Beatrice, Hastings
  • Minnesota: Battle Lake, East Grand Forks, Mountain Lake, Waconia
  • North Dakota: Arthur, Bismarck (St. Vincent’s), Lakota, Larimore, Mandan (Sunset Drive), Oakes, Park River
  • South Dakota: Prairie Creek, St. Martin Village, Tyndall

A gift that sparked hope

Among the first campuses to qualify for the matching grant was Good Samaritan Society – Westview Acres in Waconia, Minnesota, thanks to a heartfelt gift from an anonymous donor.

The donor’s $10,000 contribution qualified Westview Acres for the match and inspired others to give, reminding the community of the power of faith, generosity and gratitude.

When asked about the decision to give anonymously, the donor had a simple answer:

“I want God to get the credit for this. That’s the way it should be.”
