Before Rae Anne Newberry found Millard Manor in Omaha, Nebraska, employment problems had landed her in a homeless shelter. And just as she was getting back on her feet, a cancer diagnosis sent her life back into a downward spiral.
“When my oldest daughter went to college in California, I moved with her and got a job,” says Rae Anne. “Unfortunately, that company went out of business. So I moved to Las Vegas in search of work.”
She discovered the employment opportunities in Las Vegas were not any better than they had been in California. She soon found herself with $40 in her pocket in the middle of the night with nowhere to go.
She went into a fast-food restaurant and struck up a conversation with a homeless woman who was counting her pennies to buy food. Rae Anne ended up buying the woman a meal and, in return, got info on where to find safe shelter.
